Dr Bertone is a cognitive neuroscientist, clinical neuropsychologist, and Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology @ McGill University. He has directed the Perceptual Neuroscience Lab (PNLab.ca) for Autism and Development since 2009. The PNLab operates over two sites: the Department of ECP at McGill University, and the Rivière des Prairies Hospital (RDPH), a specialized psychiatric hospital for children affiliated with l’Université de Montréal. His team and collaborators use different experimental approaches to define biologically-plausible brain alterations that can account for sensory-related cognition and behavior in autism. The ultimate goal of his work is to increase the efficacy of existing cognitive and behavioral interventions in autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs) by defining and considering perceptual and cognitive strengths and challenges in these condition at different periods of development. To this end, he manage both laboratory- and school-based research programs in collaboration with academics, professionals and stakeholders alike. In 2016, he co-founded the Summit Centre for Education, Research, and Training (SCERT) with administrators of Summit School, a specialized school for children with exceptionalities in Montreal, Canada. The SCERT, which he presently directs, is a a unique learning, teaching and research centre that brings together experts in the fields of education, psychology and other fields relevant to the education and management of children with NDCs (www.summit-scert.com).
