Dr. Kirsty Ainsworth’s research on autism and anxiety was highlighted in the Spring edition of Sur le Spectre, the Montreal Cognitive Neuroscience Autism Research Group magazine. Her research examined the experiences of practitioners working with adults on the spectrum who also experience high levels of anxiety. The project found that practitioners applied substantial modifications to regular therapeutic techniques (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) in order to suit autistic individuals. In addition to this, practitioners reported that standard anxiety measures were often not suitable for clients with autism. There has been a surge in recent research to address this issue.
